Ipswich - accommodation, restaurants, things to do

Ipswich in Queensland was originally called Limestone in 1842 but renamed Ipswich in 1843 when the first land sales in the area took place. The name was given by Governor Gipps, apparently after Ipswich on the Orwell River, Suffolk, England, and it soon became a major centre. The Ipswich Railway workshops are a magnificent tourist draw card and Central Ipswich has a generous array of parklands and botanically interesting parks at Rosewood, Bundamba and Kholo. There are also heritage railway attractions out of town at Grandchester, Rosewood and at Swanbank, near Blackstone. If you're a train buff, you need to be here!
