Burleigh Heads in Queensland
was originally called Burley Head by surveyor Robert Dixon
in 1840. During the 1870s the surf beach and the creek were
visited by a few well-off holiday makers, drawn by horse
racing on the firm sand, fishing, game birds and oysters.
