Queensland
is without doubt the accommodation holiday capital of Australia
with a terrific range of touring facilities that cover all
price ranges and hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of
brilliant white sandy beaches.
But
it's not all sun, surf and sand. Many of the top touring
spots to linger longer are many miles from the nearest beach.
Inland Queensland contains some of the most interesting
places you'll visit in a month of Sundays.
On
this site we have tried to give you an overview of things
to do in Queensland, accommodation across a broad range
of prices, restaurants you may like to try and hopefully
enjoy.
Historically,
Queensland came into being on June 6, 1859 when it separated
from being part of New South Wales - June 6 now known as
Queensland Day. On December 10 that same year, Queensland's
first Governor, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, officially proclaimed
Queensland to be a separate colony from New South Wales.
The
area that has grown in to Brisbane as we know it today was
originally the Moreton Bay Penal Colony where the worst
of the convicts from New South Wales were sent to "teach
them a lesson". This is probably the reason why the
rugby league football clashes between the two States engender
such fierce competition! The state later encouraged free
settlement, and today Queensland's economy is dominated
by tourism, farming and the natural resource sectors.
Queensland has a population of around 4 and a half million
and an area of 1,852,642 sq km.
Queenslanders
enjoy what many would consider to be an ideal warm temperate
climate with very mild winters - always a great attraction
for those in the more southern States.
From
the vibrant and busy south east corner, to the central coast
and far north Queensland and across the outback areas, there
is just so much "stuff" to be done and enjoyed
in this wonderful place.
When
I was growing up in East Brisbane there was a song that
still sticks in my mind to this day. The first two lines
went "Life is great in the Sunshine State, every Queensland
heart sings a song". That just about sums up Queensland
for many residents and visitors alike.
Make
sure to check out Gold
Coast accommodation, which offers great services and
low rates.
